It seems that the bad reviews really did a number on Warner Bros.' Batman v Superman.
Now, for as much as one would like to point their finger at critics for bashing the moving and seemingly being out of touch with the material, fans have been pretty divisive about it too and that ultimately hurt the film as the box office numbers kept steadily dropping week to week. The film did manage to stay atop the charts for two weeks running but that was mainly in part because there were no big films to release on that span.
Given that the film had an astounding opening weekend, many pundits predicted that it would get over the $1 billion line that few films have been able to do. It was safe to assume that this would be the case given how this was an "event film" where not only would Wonder Woman make her first ever appearance on the silver screen, but also the very first time in history that the two most recognizable and most iconic superheroes would share the screen in a live adaptation. Now, the film not only had one the worst box office drop-offs in recent history, but it will apparently fail to reach the coveted $1 billion mark. According to scoop extraordinaire, Humberto Gonzales of Heroic Hollywood, Warner Bros. is rumored to be taking into consideration re-releasing the film as the 3+ hour long R - Rated cut that was promised for the Blu-Ray release ir order to help boost Batman v Superman past that milestone.

One would be that we could see the film how Zack Snyder envisioned it and it would help alleviate the complaints of people who said they had trouble keeping up with what was going on. It could also shed some light onto some "plot holes" that the film had and make it a more fluent viewing experience.
We could also get to see some of the characters that were cut off from the theatrical feature.
At the same time, people might view this as a poor attempt at damage control from Warner Bros.
Some could say that it is a sleazy cash-grab attempt by the studio.
Or, if the R - Rated cut is the true way to see the film, then why did we get a watered-down, incomplete film to start with.
In the end, I personally think that Warner Bros. should man up and ride the theatrical version until the wheels fall off. Yeah, it's easy for me to say since I do not have any stake in the company and therefore will not suffer any of the loss of confidence from the general audience or even worse, the financial losses that they will.
